Three-Roll Bibliomancy

Room 3 of 13 · Level I · Novice · 6 min

Homer's Oracle answered with a verse chosen by three rolls of a die. Here you turn it into bibliomancy with your favourite book.

What you practise

Bibliomancy (divining by opening a book), inspired by the Homeromanteion of PGM VII, and a clarity sigil in Spare's style.

The four steps, in text
  1. 1. Put each object in its step of the consultation. Calendar → Timing · Lit candle → Prayer · Paper with your question → Question · Die → Roll · Book → Answer
  2. 2. Light one candle for each roll. Roll 1 → Roll 2 → Roll 3
  3. 3. Trace your clarity sigil. Example sigil in Spare's style: write the phrase, cross out repeated letters and condense the rest into a single monogram. Yours will look different. Phrase: "I SEE CLEARLY". Here: an L stroke, an R curve ending in a diagonal, and a short bar in the centre.
  4. 4. Choose the moon to consult the book. New moon, Waxing crescent, First quarter, Waxing gibbous, Full moon, Waning gibbous, Last quarter, Waning crescent

Safety

  • Real candle: never leave it alone; put it on a ceramic or metal plate, away from curtains, paper, children and pets. Snuff it out before leaving the room. An LED candle works just as well.
  • Your intention is about you. Nothing to harm, control or bind another person.
  • This is a reflective practice: don't use it to make decisions about health, money or legal matters.

🕯️ Candle out · complete a mission to light it

The streak candle is only an on-screen element. If a room suggests a real candle, follow its safety rules.

Fun fact

The Homeromanteion (PGM VII.1–148) had 216 lines from the Iliad and Odyssey, one for each result of three dice.
