Sweeping the Threshold
Room 11 of 13 · Level III · Archivist · 6 min
In the Spanish-speaking world, treatises like Castañega's coexist with living traditions like curanderismo's limpias. Here you practise a simple home cleansing with a broom and salt water.
What you practise
A home cleansing with a broom and salt water, and a Spare-style sigil.
The four steps, in text
- 1. Put each tool where it's used. Broom → Floor · Salt water → Threshold · Rosemary sprig in a glass → Table · Open window → Window
- 2. Sweep the home in order, from the back to the door. 1 · Back room → 2 · Hallway → 3 · Living room → 4 · Door
- 3. Trace your clean-home sigil. Example sigil in Spare's style: write the phrase, cross out repeated letters and condense the rest into a single monogram. Yours will look different. Phrase: "CLEAN HOME". Here: a large C, an L inside it and a line crossing both.
- 4. Choose the moon to cleanse your home. New moon, Waxing crescent, First quarter, Waxing gibbous, Full moon, Waning gibbous, Last quarter, Waning crescent
Safety
- Do not swallow the salt, the ritual water, plants or oils. Nothing in this room goes on your skin.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding or allergies: avoid essential oils and herbs on the skin or in smoke, and check with a health professional first.
- Your intention is about you. Nothing to harm, control or bind another person.
- Do not burn herbs or paper: if you ever use smoke, only with the window open and never near people with asthma.
🕯️ Candle out · complete a mission to light it
The streak candle is only an on-screen element. If a room suggests a real candle, follow its safety rules.
Fun fact
Friar Martín de Castañega's Treatise on Superstitions and Witchcraft was printed in Logroño in 1529, at Miguel de Eguía's press.
