Few animals carry as much baggage as the pig, which is exactly why it can be startling to meet one in a dream. If you're wondering what it means to dream of pigs, start by setting the omens aside: it isn't a sign of bad luck, or of money on its way. The pig is an animal of appetite and of the earth, and it tends to turn up when your relationship with pleasure, your body or abundance is asking for a more honest look.
Common pig dreams
A dirty pig, or a pig in the mud: what you call dirty may simply be alive. The dream may be pointing to an inherited shame around desire, food or rest.
A pig chasing you: an appetite you've pushed aside is now running after you. It isn't out to hurt you; it wants you to make room for it.
Clean, plump pigs, or a sow with her piglets: fertility in the widest sense. Projects, affections or resources that grow when you give them time and care.
A flying pig: "when pigs fly" means "never", so the image is the very picture of the impossible. In the dream, the psyche plays with something you'd ruled out and invites you to ask whether it really is out of reach.
The Jungian view
In ancient Greece the sow was Demeter's animal, and piglets were offered to the earth at her festivals: the pig belongs to the Great Mother, to a fertility that doesn't ask permission. In the Odyssey, Circe turns Odysseus's companions into swine, as if denied instinct could end up taking over completely. Analytical psychology doesn't ask you to choose between purity and the pigsty. It asks for a relationship: recognizing hunger, taste and the body as part of you, so they don't have to speak in secret.
